The nominees for the 2017 Beazley Design of the Year award have been announced, with Kanye West’s The Life of Pablo tour merch and pop-up concept featured in the fashion category.
The award, which was won by IKEA’s flatpack refugee shelter last year, honors the world’s best designs, sorting each into six separate spheres — fashion, architecture, digital, graphics, products and transport. From this, one overall winner is picked.
Joining Kanye in the fashion section is Nike, for it’s “Pro Hijab” concept, and the Levi’s and Google “Project Jacquard.” Another big name to be nominated is adidas photographer and ‘Ye collaborator Wolfgang Tillmans: he’s been chosen in the graphics category for his work during the Brexit referendum. IKEA was nominated once again for its “snap-together” flat pack furniture.
Kanye teamed-up with UMG merchandise subsidiary to open 21 international pop-up stores last year. Some fans were left unimpressed, however, claiming the garb was overpriced and made on the cheap.
