It was recently announced that rap/hip-hop legend and icon, Jay-Z, 47, will be honored with the 2018 GRAMMY Salute to Industry Icons Award. And if you ask us, we think it is about time!
There is no doubt in anyone’s mind that this year the music industry has been a home to both blossoming, and established talents; Cardi B; Yo Gotti; 21 Savage; Ty Dolla $ign; Gucci Mane; K. Camp. However, Jay-Z is no stranger to musical success, especially with the success of album, ‘4:44,’ that came out this past summer.
As the Brooklyn-born icon has said himself, nothing has changed about him except the year it is, and numbers don’t lie. Twenty-one GRAMMY Awards, and countless nominations later, he is being recognized yet again.
Neil Portnow, the President and CEO of the Recording Academy, gushed over the hip-hop mogul following the announcement saying, “We are absolutely thrilled and delighted to honor Jay-Z with this year’s GRAMMY Salute to Industry Icons Award. His contributions as an industry trailblazer, and music visionary only begin to touch on the tremendous impact he’s made both in entertainment and beyond.”
What’s more is that this year’s GRAMMY Awards will be held in Jay-Z’s home turf, New York. Portnow said, “Jay-Z also embodies the vibrant city of New York City, and we couldn’t imagine a more fitting honoree as we return to Manhattan for this year’s GRAMMY Awards.”
Jay-Z can now add this onto his endless list of achievements. It looks like he better dust off that empty space on his shelf of trophies and awards — that is, if there is any room left!
