It has been now been confirmed that Eddie Murphy will return for the second round of the iconic film ‘Coming to America’. Murphy will return as Prince Akeem alongside Hustle and Flow director Craig Brewer according to Hypebeast.
Murphy’s recent Netflix film ‘Dolemite is my Name’ allowed him to work with Brewer as a director and he loved the experience they shared together during the film so much so that paramount hired him as the director for ‘Coming to America 2’. When asked about the sequel Murphy shared “After many years of anticipation, I’m thrilled that Coming to America 2 is officially moving forward,”. “We’ve assembled a great team that will be led by Craig Brewer, who just did an amazing job on Dolemite, and I’m looking forward to bringing all these classic and beloved characters back to the big screen.”
The film, which is set to release in August 2020, will mainly follow the initial draft of the script written by the films original writers Barry Blaustein and David Sheffield, however it will be rewritten by black-ish creator Kenya Barris. According to Deadline, the film will center on Akeem finding out he has a long lost son and will retrieve him so he can take his rightful place as heir to the throne.
