Paris Fashion Week has always centered itself around being the most progressive and innovative out of all the giant runways affairs, attracting a bevy of celebrities, streetstyle aficionados and industry luminaries on their front row. Thankfully Balenciaga’s FW19 Collection did not disappoint.
The hometown design house, helmed by Demna Gvasalia, has managed to evolve within the menswear sector. No more oversized, ‘fugly’ dad athletic shoes but a more deliberate agenda that includes volume, new shapes and impeccable tailoring.
Not to become predictable as other designers riding the current wave of millennial geared garments, the collection was reimagined for a more mature crowd, a sartorial growth of such and felt new, fresh and very now.
The offering was chocked full of elevated essentials: hunched shoulder blazers; shirting that is business in front, party in the back; track dress pants; and bootcut denim with a checkerboard print down the front of the leg. Not to miss an opportunity to include outerwear Gvasalia’s new shape takes a new form and includes a doubled breasted trench, floor length patent leather overcoat and a split-tail hooded red bomber. A bevy of t-shirts and shopping bags received a more luxe update. Definitely a vibe and chill factor that Balenciaga devotees have never seen before.
Hoping this is a less than ironic approach, Balenciaga’s new attitude will take shape and form and hopefully land in your closet real soon.
