Jonathan Michael Batiste is an American singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, bandleader, composer, and television personality. Along with Stevie Wonder, Prince, Willie Nelson, Lenny Kravitz, Ed Sheeran, Lana Del Rey, Roy Hargrove, Juvenile, and Mavis Staples, he has collaborated on records and given live performances. From 2015 to 2022, Batiste performed every night as the bandleader and musical director on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert with his band Stay Human. Batiste holds the positions of Creative Director of the National Jazz Museum in Harlem and Music Director at The Atlantic. He co-wrote the soundtrack for the Pixar animated picture Soul in 2020, and as a result, he shared the Academy, Golden Globe, Grammy, and BAFTA Film Awards with Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. With 20 nominations, Batiste has won five Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year for his album We Are (2021). The documentary film American Symphony, which documents the process of composing Batiste's first symphony, included Batiste in 2023.
