Raf Simons has dropped a new collaboration with Dr. Martens, and it’s a reworked 1461 style that was featured at the Raf Simons Paris Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2019 runway presentation. It was the designer and founder’s first show since leaving Calvin Klein, located at the grand, gold-lined ballroom of Shanghai-La hotel.
This is not the first time Raf Simons has partnered up with Dr. Martens‘ staple footwear. The two brands’ first collaboration goes back to 2009, but this new collection is just as unassuming. The reworked iconic work and safety footwear silhouette is a low-key, simplistic shoe that looks relatively normal, like it’s just another Dr. Martens shoe. But on the lateral side panel of the shoe, there’s a white co-branded stamp that stands out from the shoe’s smooth black calf leather upper. And at the front of the shoe, the Belgian designer has also sneaked in a special detail: an asymmetrical touch that exposes an engraved metal toe cap on the right foot, reading “DR MARTENS / RF SMNS” next to some traditional shoemaker markings. Issa aesthetic.
The shoe has a cushioned AirWair sole and tonal stitching just like the other Dr. Martens shoes, providing comfort and protection for your minimalist fashion this fall/winter season. Raf Simons x Dr. Martens Asymmetric Cut-Out Steel Toe 1461 Derby is available now on retailers such as Machine-A for $410 USD.
