Tarik Johnston, also known as Rvssian, doesn’t want to be held back by genre. The Jamaican producer is best known for his up-tempo beats and melodies. Early on in his career, he became dancehall legend Vybz Kartel go-to producer. The two created magic in the studio, their first big hit together was “Life Sweet,” a single which appeared on Vybz 2010 project, Pon Di Gaza 2.0.
Since then, the two maintain a great relationship with each other. Over the years, Rvssian maintained a steady output of dancehall tracks for heavy hitters and rising artists such as Shenseea and more, even continuing to release new Vybz tracks while the artist has been incarcerated. Rvssian has defined the sound of dancehall in the last half decade
In recent years, Rvssian has also accumulated a handful of production credits in the rap world, which jolted him into a new music scene, Latin music, specifically reggaeton. Since bringing together Sean Paul and reggaeton singer Farruko for a crossover heater in 2014, “Passion Whine,” Rvssian’s dancehall- rooted sound has become highly sought within the Latin rap scene. In a matter of a few years, he has become one of the most recognized producers in the Latin rap scene. He already worked with stars like Arcangel, Bad Bunny, and Nicky Jam.
After a string of collaborative efforts with the likes of Bad Bunny, Cardi B, Juicewrld and Swae Lee, the platinum certified producer has tapped in with upcoming rapper Lil Tjay and Lil Mosey for a new single called “Only The Team.” This comes as Rvssian second official single on his Interscope imprint Rich Immigrants. The video was shot in Jamaica, which is the hometown of Rvssian, this gives us a visual of the environment that helped shape the sound that’s being heard across the globe.
