This week’s music releases feature new projects from some favorite rap veterans from the south up to Buffalo.
Burden of Proof, Benny the Butcher & Hit-Boy
Buffalo’s own Benny the Butcher has teamed-up with producer Hit-Boy on his new album entitled Burden of Proof. Last week, his label mate Westside Gunn released his debut album, WHO MADE THE SUNSHINE. Burden of Proof is Benny’s second release of the year. Just a few months ago, he released Benny the Butcher & D.J. Drama Present: The Respected Sopranos. At the same time, producer Hit-Boy has been the producer of the year, producing Nas’ King’s Disease and eight songs on Big Sean’s Detriot 2.
PARTYPACK, PARTYNEXTDOOR
It looks like PARTYNEXTDOOR is taking us back to the PARTYNEXTDOOR trilogy with PARTYPACK, an eight song E.P. featuring unreleased songs. Before the release of PARTYMOBILE, the singer didn’t make any music during a two to three year stint. With the release of PARTYPACK, Party is reassuring his fans that more music is coming soon. Just looking at the features, this collection brings back the old PARTY.
The L.I.B.R.A., T.I.
The pioneer of trap music, T.I, is back with his new album The L.I.B.R.A. (The Legend is Back Running Atlanta). The title fits the icon well; early in October, T.I. partnered with AllHipHop to launch “The L.I.B.R.A. Stimulus Package,” a 10 day giveaway the rapper gifted $1,200 to a randomly selected contestant. Just turning 40, the rapper gives us insights about longevity in the rap game, while speaking on fatherhood with a segment featuring his daughter Deejah Harris.
So Icy Gang Vol. 1, Gucci Mane
Atlanta’s Gucci Mane is introducing a new wave of talent with his latest tape, So Icy Gang Vol. 1. With Vol. 1, Gucci is going back to A&R mode, fostering upcoming talent in the trap music scene. In the past years, the 1017 roster included Asian Doll, Hoodrich Pablo Juan, Lil Wop, etc. Even though many have the left label, Gucci Mane has made his plan to rebuild the brand. With the signing of Pooh Shiesty, Foogiano, Roboy, Big Scarr, Echanting, and K Shiday, Vol. 1 will give fans great insight into the new 1017 label.
Link Up (EP), Preme and Popcaan
O.V.O.’s Preme and Popcaan teamed up to bring us Link Up, a six song E.P. If you didn’t know, both Preme and Popcaan signed to Drake’s label O.V.O. Earlier this month, the two released “Comfortable” featuring Davido. After the drop, many speculated a joint project between Preme and Popcaan. Heavily being influenced by reggae, the two linking up gives fans a vibe of dancehall music mixed with tropical beats.
