As we settle into spring, check out this week’s new releases from 24kGoldn, Rod Wave, Vic Mensa and more.
El Dorado, 24kGoldn
El Dorado is 24kGoldn’s debut studio album. The album’s name comes from his nickname “El Dorado,” a term given to him as a child by his mom’s coworkers. For those who don’t’ know, El Dorado translates to “The Golden One,” a meaning he would use later in life for his stage name. During an online interview with Apple, he discussed the importance of his debut studio album. “The album is about love and loss,” he said. It’s an album where people can escape to or forget about whatever problems they were dealing with in their life.
Soulfly, Rod Wave
Since December 2020, fans have waited for Rod Wave’s highly anticipated album Soulfly. Days before its release, the album reached Apple Music’s number one spot just off of pre-saves, passing Justin Bieber album, Justice. The albums come as a follow-up to 2020’s Pray 4 Love, which charted at number two on the Billboard 200. It seems Rod Wave will be keeping the number one spot once the album hits Billboards.
I TAPE, Vic Mensa
Chicago rapper Vic Mensa is releasing the second installment to the TAPE series entitled I TAPE. The E.P follows the 2020 release V TAPE, where Mensa displays his profound consciousness and self-reflection. The five-song project features production from producers Just Blaze and Smoko Ono. The rapper addresses the injustice happening in the current world while focusing on his social activism work.
Visionland, YBN Nahmir
YBN Nahmir releases his long-awaited debut solo album Visionland. Over the past year, Nahmir has deliberately teased the album on social media, leaving fans to speculate the release date. The 20-track collection features a star-studded line-up with features from 21 Savage, Offset, G Herbo, and more. Seeing Nahmir make his way back to music after contemplating retirement is excellent to see.
“StashBox” Tay B Feat. Lil Durk
Detroit rapper Tay B taps in with Chicago rapper Lil Durk on his latest single “StashBox.” For quite some time, Tay B has been making a name for himself in the city of Detroit. The release also includes a video directed by Jerry Production, which follows a story of misplaced anger, rage, and feeling misunderstood.
