As the family gathers during this challenging time, Michael Jackson's passing stirs long-buried memories, forcing Grace to confront her past and redefine what family truly means.
Directed by Andrew Shea and written by Cindy McCreery, both University of Texas professors, the film’s deeply emotional narrative has already garnered acclaim, winning the Audience Award at the Austin Film Festival and Best Narrative Feature at the Santa Clarita International Film Festival. Jasmine Batchelor also took home the Best Actress award for her compelling portrayal of Grace.
"This film is a love letter to anyone who has faced the challenge of reconnecting with family," says writer Cindy McCreery. "It’s about forgiveness, understanding, and the resilience of the human spirit."
Director Andrew Shea adds, "Setting the film against the backdrop of Michael Jackson’s death allowed us to explore how collective memories can impact personal journeys. It’s a story that will resonate with anyone who has ever been part of a family."
The film’s ensemble cast includes Victoria Kelleher ("Why Women Kill") as Felicia, the family matriarch, and Celestina Harris ("Special Ops: Lioness") in a breakout role. It also features a haunting original score by Stephen Trask ("Hedwig and the Angry Inch") and music by singer/songwriter Shameka Dwight.
