Los Angeles’ newest sporting and events arena, Intuit Dome, debuted in August 2024, choosing Inglewood as the destination for its $2 billion venue. The LA Clippers kicked off the inaugural season in its new home arena just two months later, a space that has also hosted Buju Banton, Future and Metro Boomin’, and Usher in its first six months, as the venue prepares to host the 2026 NBA All-Star Weekend.
The 17,700-seat multipurpose stadium promises an up-close-and-personal experience unlike that of any other venue, from its tech-forward features to its fan-centered design choices. Built to ensure every seat has a good view, Intuit Dome’s vision stems from owner and chairman Steve Ballmer’s early discovery post-team acquisition in 2014 of the Clippers’ need for its own space to realize success. Previously sharing Crypto.com Arena with city rivals, the Los Angeles Lakers, meant shared dates across training facilities and game dates, with preferences often going to the Lakers. A decade later, Ballmer’s immersive live entertainment arena has given the Clippers a new home while revolutionizing how fans can interact during live events.
Unmatched Fan Interaction in Pro Basketball’s Newest Standout Arena
The venue’s design successfully breaks boundaries both as a premier basketball site and an entertainment venue that personalizes how fans engage.
When it comes to sporting specifications, Intuit Dome offers an impressive five basketball courts. The expansive complex includes two practice courts and a promo court for community and employee initiatives. There’s also the official game court, an 80,000-square-foot outdoor plaza and court, and more than 86,000 square feet of training, medical, and player spaces.
The facility’s robust suite of technology partnerships is apparent across nearly every touchpoint of the fan experience. Through its partnership with AI-shopping platform AiFi, Intuit Dome streamlines concessions shopping at more than 40 food stands through facial recognition and automated billing based on what shoppers take from the shelves. Each seat has its own game controller-like buttons that control colors for arena visual effects and have interactive fan quiz capabilities. During breaks, the venue’s showstopping Halo Board delivers on the facility’s wow factor in terms of entertainment. Comprising 3,592 60-inch televisions spanning nearly an acre (38,375 square feet), the Halo Board is the largest two-sided display of its kind in an arena setting.
“We want the comfort and convenience of home, but the energy, excitement, and enthusiasm of being able to smell the leather on the ball as it’s moving around the court,” Ballmer shared in an official statement.
One of the chairman’s proudest achievements in the arena’s design is The Wall, 51 uninterrupted rows of seats near the visitor’s bench for the ultimate fan game experience. As the Clippers begin their 2024-2025 season, speculation around The Wall’s intimidating effect on visiting teams lingers in conversations about the new dome as Ballmer aims to build a culture at home.
The Promise of Corporate Investment in Local Communities
After any major corporate investment into a community come understandable inquiries around how its presence will impact that community. On the positive side, the prospect of increased job opportunities and visitors in the area could lead to economic gains for locals and local businesses. However, the economic influx of fans doesn't always trickle into the community, instead having the reverse effect due to traffic congestion and reduced sales as a result of event-related road closures.
Seemingly, in response to its impact, the arena has proudly shared its benefits package to the city, a $100 million investment into Inglewood’s causes and infrastructure. Approximately 7,000 jobs were created during its construction, and it claims to commit to 30% of its permanent positions being filled by Inglewood residents. Intuit Dome has also expressed a commitment to an employment rate of 30% for minority and disadvantaged business enterprises, an opportunity that will ideally go to local businesses that benefit from the financial stability the most.
Intuit Dome’s innovation is promising, with an architectural design that exceedingly elevates the standard for live sports and entertainment. A series of headlining concerts by music industry veterans Mary J. Blige, Keith Urban, and Nelly are slated for 2025, giving music fans good reason to support Inglewood’s growth. How the Clippers will perform this season in their new home arena remains to be seen, but this new location has all the intrigue to fuel the culture flames for basketball fans.
