LEWIS HAMILTON: #5 BEST
After the Miami Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton–another co-chair of this year’s Met Gala—embraced the theme in a custom Wales Bonner ivory, double-breasted tuxedo with coattails. As a modern dandy himself, he told a story through this look through jewels, trims, baobab flower motifs, and cowrie shells, which represented a protective talisman in African culture, his birth date, and ideas of growth, memory, and heritage.

ZOE SALDANA: #4 BEST
Oscar winner Zoe Saldana is wearing Thom Browne–the king of tailoring. This black and white gown with a sculpted bodice and white button detailing down the front and sleeves speaks for itself. As this is her eighth time at the Met Gala, this seasoned veteran didn’t disappoint.

ZENDAYA: #3 BEST
Zendaya made her return to the Met Gala for another year in a serene, white, silk Louis Vuitton suit with a matching hat–more similar to her red-carpet looks rather than past Met Gala gowns she’s worn. This surprise put Zendaya high on the list.

COLMAN DOMINGO: #2 BEST
Colman Domingo, co-chair at this year’s Met Gala, raised the stakes per usual. After earning his first Oscar nomination for his role in “Sing Sing,” Anna Wintour asked him to co-chair alongside A$AP Rocky, Lewis Hamilton, Pharrell Williams, and honorary co-chair LeBron James. This look, inspired by the history of the Moors, specifically their impact on the Harlem Renaissance, clearly gives him co-chair quality.

TEYANA TAYLOR: #1 BEST
Teyana Taylor aced the theme wearing a pin-striped red and charcoal suit and matching overcoat designed by Black Panther costume designer Ruth E. Carter. She went strong with the dandyism theme, wearing a hat, a cane, and waist chains. The words “Harlem rose” were stitched into her train as well. The symbolism packed into this look put her on top.
From sharp suiting to bold reinterpretations of classic silhouettes, this year’s Met Gala proved that style is most powerful when it's personal. While some played it safe, others embraced the theme with fearless flair, redefining what tailored elegance can look like through the lens of Black style and self-expression.
