On-Set Insights: Michael Rainey Jr.'s Latest Venture

Michael Rainey Jr.’s star is certainly on the rise. The young star has acted since he was a child. His hustle and determination certainly paid off as he has gotten roles in illustrious TV shows and movies such as Orange Is The New Black and Barbershop: The New Cut.

However, Michael’s breakout role is playing Tariq St. Patrick on Power, and its spinoff, Power: Book II. While Rainey is a consummate actor and professional, he is known for his collaborative efforts with his friends in Hollywood and beyond.

Michael Rainey Jr was born on September 22, 2000, in Louisville, Kentucky. Michael and his family moved to Staten Island, NY when he was just a toddler. Michael’s mother homeschooled her son early in his childhood. As a result of his homeschooling, Michael Rainey, Jr got to audition for roles while he was still young.

His parents’ dedication to young Michael’s career sure paid off. Before long, Michael soon started getting roles in prominent movies and television shows. After a few guest roles, Michael caught the eye of Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson and the other producers of the Power franchise on Starz. After a couple of auditions and chemistry readings with other cast members, Michael got the role of Tariq on Power.

Michael’s social media presence is one of the more enviable in Black Hollywood. For one thing, he has over 3 million followers on Instagram alone. In late 2019, Michael launched his first podcast, called The Crew Has It. Celebrity guests such as Kenan Thompson helped give the new podcast a major boost. The Crew Has It is mainly about the on-the-set happenings on the Power: Book II set, although guests like Michael’s girlfriend have also made appearances on the ‘pod.
