Exclusive: Carlos King on Who He Considers the “King” of Love & Marriage: Huntsville
On July 15, 2025, Bleu Magazine and a host of other media outlets and influencers met at The Forum Cocktail Co. for a 1:1 experience to kick off the 10th season of OWN network’s top-rated unscripted series, Love & Marriage: Huntsville.

Guests enjoyed a happy hour-style event complete with an open bar and tasty appetizers. In a time where so much of connection has become virtual, it felt good to get out and connect in person with like-minded, fun, and creative people. Still, the highlight of the night was when we were joined by Kimmi Scott, Latisha Scott, and the king of reality TV himself: series creator Carlos King.
They made their way through the crowd, mixing and mingling and sharing what they were excited about for the season. One of the highlights for me was hearing Carlos King emphasize the importance of a show like this. It hadn’t fully resonated with me before that the series features an all-Black cast, produced by a Black man, and is now in its 10th season. King has often spoken about his views on representation, and it’s highly demonstrated in the OWN network series. These are college-educated Black people sharing real representations of work, wealth, and marriage.

Although at the time the new season hadn’t premiered, King still gave a little tea about what audiences can expect. He suggested that fans tune in weekly and DVR when needed because big unexpected turns will happen, and you’re not going to want to be behind. He also mentioned that we can expect to see a lot more of the children and hear more of their POVs.
When asked, Carlos King told Bleu Magazine that his definition of a king is “someone who stands on business and always protects his people.” But when we pushed for who the king of the show was, that’s when things got spicy! The ladies naturally started peer pressuring him a bit to name their husbands. And he finally landed with Maurice. “Let’s be clear, all of the men on my cast are kings. But if I had to give the crown away, I’d say Maurice, just because he is so smart. Did you know he was even valedictorian?” I have to say, it was fun watching the friendly competition, but I also appreciated how Kimmi and Latisha made sure to emphasize that all of the men are kings. Their positive energy felt like a family vibe, and it made me even more excited to tune back in this season.
