EmpowHerMENT: Celebrating Women in Music, Sports & Entertainment
The Roc Nation School of Music, Sports & Entertainment at Long Island University (LIU) recently hosted a special Women’s History Month event titled “EmpowHerMENT – Celebrating Women in Music, Sports & Entertainment” at their Brooklyn campus.

Female leaders from various industries gathered to engage students in insightful panels and workshops, sharing personal stories, overcoming challenges, and providing invaluable career insights.
The event, which took place on Thursday, March 28th, brought together a stellar lineup of accomplished women including Taj McWilliams-Franklin, Swaggy Sie, Criscia Nicole Long, Shauna James, and more from organizations such as NBPA, Women's National Football Conference, CBS Sports, Girls Make Beats, and Roc Nation. These luminaries shared their experiences and wisdom, inspiring students to navigate barriers and pursue their professional aspirations in music, sports, and entertainment.
The day kicked off with a thought-provoking panel discussion titled "Women Navigating Barriers in Music, Sports, and Entertainment" at the Kumble Theater. Panelists delved into their personal journeys, discussing challenges they've conquered and insights they've gained along the way, offering invaluable advice to the eager audience.
After the panel, students had the opportunity to participate in specialized workshops tailored to the sports and music industries. In the sports-driven workshop, leaders explored their professional journeys, discussed unique challenges in the sports industry, and provided guidance on transitioning from athlete to professional. Simultaneously, in the music-driven workshop, industry experts emphasized the importance of persistence, highlighted diverse career paths, and offered strategies for personal branding and industry success.
The event ended with a networking session, allowing attendees to connect with panelists and industry professionals.
