Indie World is a new platform co-founded by Kabir Chibber to unite creatives of all mediums across the globe. It’s a place to discover creators that would otherwise never be found. Chibber describes Indie World as a sort of “Google for the creator economy.”

“The most interesting stuff in the world today is being made, by people working together, but it’s impossible for most people to find.” Chibber said. “Indie World wants to make it easier to find the interesting and weird subcultures that exist on the internet by bringing them all together.”

Born in Hong Kong, Chibber is something of a polymath, a person with a wide range of knowledge and learning. He has spent nearly a decade as an independent filmmaker creating numerous films of his own such as his most recent picture, ‘Only One Can Win’, a 72-minute feature documentary about a young boxer. He was also a Nieman Fellow at Harvard University in 2019, which is one of the most prestigious fellowships within the media industry.

He has also written numerous articles for noted publications such as ‘The Right to Insult the President of France (Harper’s Magazine), ‘When the European Union Rules Against Contemporary Art & Artists’ (Harper’s Magazine), ‘The Business of Professional Wrestling’ (The New Yorker), ‘The Last Games Arcade in Chinatown’ (The New York Times) and ‘The Mafia Homes of Sicily’ (Financial Times).

Chibber created Indie World during the coronavirus pandemic, while working on his newest documentary film and making small batches of chore coats. Indie World provides users with access to videos, music, podcasts and newsletters; all in one convenient place.

“We’re the anti-Instagram!” Chibber said. “We’re starting with digital and then we will move to small offline businesses, like indie fashion brands to help establish them also. As long as it’s indie, we’re here for you.”

The App Store summarizes the innovative platform’s concept as the following:

“We help you discover independent creators you would never find on your own. Scroll through a handpicked selection of the most interesting people in the arts - film, fashion, writing, painting, comedy, bullshitting podcasters.”

“One app to find and follow all your favorites across the main creator platforms like YouTube, TikTok and Spotify. Escape the monoculture!”

Indie World is free and available on the App Store for iPhone (iOS 12 or later), iPod Touch (iOS 12 or later) and MacBook (macOS 11 or later with M1 chip or later). The app is rated 17+ for mature and suggestive themes. It was officially released on October 3, 2023.
