A new rap beef has taken over the internet, and it involves 21 Savage and Soulja Boy. The feud follows the colossal showdown between Drake and Kendrick Lamar – with Future and Metro Boomin catching strays. Drake took shots at Metro Boomin in two of the diss tracks aimed at Kendrick.
In “Push Ups,” Drake rapped" “Metro, shut your ho ass up and make some drums, n***a.” Additionally, Drake has relentlessly trolled Metro on social media. On April 16, the Toronto rapper sent a marching band to the famed Atlanta strip club, Magic City, in Metro’s hometown.
Amid the rap drama, tweets from Metro’s past have surfaced, and they are pretty problematic. This all prompted a hip-hop firestorm that ended with Soulja and 21 Savage threatening to physically harm each other.
Soulja Boy and 21 Savage are beefing over Metro Boomin’s old tweets.
Metro Boomin’s resurfaced tweets are far from innocent. In a tweet from 2012, Metro slammed Soulja and suggested that he was not a serious rapper.
“My phone rings to come to the studio with Jeezy. Yours rings to send Soulja Boy a pack of beats. Sit down,” Metro tweeted (per Vibe).
Soulja caught wind of the producer’s tweets and immediately demanded an apology from Metro.
Soulja's rant was circulated on social media, ultimately landing on DJ Akademiks' Instagram page. 21 took notice of the post, making his feelings known in the comment section after Soulja wrote, "He got 24 hours to delete that tweet."
21 took issue with Soulja continued taunts, calling the "Crank That" rapper out on social media. 21 commented under Soulja, writing, "Or what?" The "Redrum" rapper later doubled down on his defense of Metro, firing off a warning of his own.
Soulja’s next tweets – directed at Metro’s deceased mother – only poured gasoline on the fire.
“F**k that n***a mama! Don’t speak on my name, b***h,” Soulja wrote (via Hot New Hip Hop). Adding, “You sacrificed your own mom. @MetroBoomin you a puppet."
The comments didn't sit well with 21, who promptly responded.
“Speaking on a n***a mama like s**t a game you gone s**t on yourself when I see you boy,” 21 wrote on Twitter. Of course, Soulja responded to the “Bank Account” MC’s threat by inviting 21 to a boxing match.
Soulja Boy apologized for speaking ill of Metro Boomin’s mom.
Days after his viral outburst, Soulja had a change of heart. He took to Twitter on May 15, to officially apologize to Metro Boomin for the remarks he made about the music producer’s late mother.
“I apologize to @MetroBoomin for over reacting over an old tweet,” Soulja wrote. “Condolences to his mom. I’m going to seek therapy and anger management. I’m done responding to hate, new or old.”
Netizens praised Soulja for correcting his wrong, with some suggesting that he is the “first rapper to actually apologize.” Soulja did not specify when he would begin seeking therapy or if he had directly reached out to Metro.
Soulja’s apology comes days after Drake signaled the end of his beef with Kendrick. The “Nice For What” rapper shared a post on his Instagram story that read: “Good times. Summer vibes up next” (per HypeBeast).
