Kizz Daniel: Love & Afrobeats

Kizz Daniel has been having quite the summer. In May, he started the season off with two scorching, sold-out concerts in London and Manchester, respectively. Shortly after, the award-winning Afrobeats superstar once again captivated his global audience by releasing his latest single, “Double.” The Nigerian sensation’s latest offering is a heartfelt homage to his wife, inspired by the joyful chaos of parenthood.

The song, along with its accompanying video, quickly resonated with his audience, amassing over a million views on YouTube within a week of its release. Celebrating the ten-year milestone of his career, Kizz Daniel is a veteran in the game who knows how to consistently create music that connects with his core fans, whom he affectionately calls his “Vaddicts.” We caught up with Kizz to discuss the success of “Double” and what's next for his career.

BLEU: “Double” has been creating quite a buzz. Can you tell us about the inspiration behind the song?

Daniel: “Double” was inspired by my family. As a father, when you spend a lot of time with your kids, you tend to listen to a lot of kiddie songs, and the rhythm sticks to your head. I wanted a song that encapsulated that sense of fun and innocence, and “Double” did just that.

BLEU: The visuals in the music video are stunning. What was the creative process for the video?

Daniel: For me, the video for “Double” was a translation of the core idea of the song, and I think the visuals perfectly complemented the song's theme and mood.

BLEU: I understand that the video amassed over a million views within the first few days. What about the single/video do you feel connects with your audience?

Daniel: It’s a song that can speak to any age demographic. As you know, I try to have my songs speak to a diverse demographic, and “Double” is a testament to that.

BLEU: You are fresh off two sold-out shows in the U.K. How does that feel?

Daniel: First, I’d love to thank the almighty God because none of that would be possible without him. It feels incredible to see that many people out there queued up to show you love and support—it really was an incredible experience.

BLEU: As an international superstar, is there a particular country/city/region where you enjoy performing most?

Daniel: Anywhere the “Vaddicts” are present is a favorite place for me to perform. I’m grateful to have such dedicated fans scattered all over the world, so I have a favorite place wherever they are. It’s always a special moment connecting with them.

BLEU: Now that you are ten years into your career, looking back, how do you feel you evolved as an artist since your debut? Are there any milestones that stand out the most?

Daniel: I’ve been active in the music scene for ten years now, and within the past ten years, I personally can tell I've grown significantly as an artist. In terms of milestones, what sticks out the most is that I've been able to experiment with different sounds, collaborate with several artists, and refine my craft.

BLEU: What can fans expect next from Kizz? Are there any projects or shows you are particularly excited about?

Daniel: Fans can expect a lot of exciting projects from me in the near future. There are a couple of concerts and tours in the works, and there are also some surprises that I can't wait to share with everyone.
