Rising Australian soul and R&B singer BOY SODA has officially dropped his debut album SOULSTAR, marking a bold new chapter in his rapidly developing career. Known for his genre mixing approach to soul and R&B, BOY SODA is carving a new sound that is very intimate and cinematic that changes how people view R&B as a whole.
SOULSTAR is a thirteen track journey starting off with the infectious single “Never The Same,” then headed straight to the saxophone driven “Blink Twice” track, and the ascending harmonizing track “4k” featuring Dean Brady. Fans have already devoured the lead single “Lil Obsession" which has received five million global streams and has given BOY SODA his Aria award nomination-a testament to his growing influence in both Australia and internationally.

What sets SOULSTAR apart is its lush instrumentation. “There was this communal feeling that we were all doing something really incredible and special,” BOY SODA reflects. The album was recorded deep in the Blue Mountains featuring a three part horn section, a string quartet, live drums, piano, congos and an ensemble of vocalists. The collaborative nature of the project is evident in every note. “It felt over-indulgent being able to have that many live instruments. I’m very aware of the rarity and the privilege to be able to make that album. But hey, who better than to call on your talented mates to make something special happen.”
BOY SODA’s music is a blend of refined modesty with a cosmic feel to it. It feels like a late night city drive under bright neon stop lights where you can hear the touch of jazz and R&B collide. Following his nomination for Best Soul/R&B Release for “Lil Obsession," his ventures expanded all the way to the US doing collaborations with media platforms such as Garden Sessions, Goyo, and On The Radar. Alongside his appearances at New York Fashion Week. His energy is effortless but so meticulous in which he draws his listeners into a world that is expansive but intimate.
Even his reinterpretation of Panic! At The Disco’s “I write Sins Not Tragedies” transformed the song into a velvety jazz vibe showing his vision, versatility and passion for art.
What’s striking about BOY SODA is that he shows the knack for having his effortless blend of technical skill and emotional resonance down. SOULSTAR is not just a debut album- he is announcing his arrival and statement. This project showcases both his balance of artistic ambition and his approach to genre-blending music. BOY SODA is making his mark but not just chasing trends but by defining them. Making his work a new medium for modern soul and R&B.
