The feud between Cardi B and Joe Budden dates back to 2019. Their beef heated up a year after Cardi released her debut album, Invasion of Privacy, which featured the hit single “Bodak Yellow.” Cardi’s freshman project was extremely successful. It debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart and has since sold more than 4 million units, according to the RIAA.
Joe, a rapper turned podcaster, has become known for his controversial opinions. The Joe Budden Podcast has become one of the biggest hip-hop platforms in the game – with Joe’s brash voice leading the charge. The Harlem native does not hold back and has regularly shared his thoughts on Cardi. The tension between the two has been a topic of interest for fans, and the drama is still brewing. Here's a detailed timeline of their beef.
2018: Joe slams ‘Invasion of Privacy.’
Upon the release of Invasion of Privacy, Joe Budden shared his unfiltered criticism of Cardi B’s project. During an episode of The Joe Budden podcast, Joe said he “loved” the album. However, his remarks raised eyebrows.
“I really enjoyed it,” he said. “I think that, and I could be in the minority here. I think there's high level lyricism on the album. Yeah, I think there's flows all over the place. I think they did a real good job with whoever they picked to write for her. It also told me how important rap voices are, because Cardi is not the most articulate of people.” Cardi did not respond to Joe directly, but it wasn’t long before their beef heated up.
2019: Cardi goes off on Joe for his comments about her music.
Joe Budden’s criticism of Cardi B did not stop after the initial release of Invasion of Privacy. A year after the album was released, Joe provided further analysis of the “Please Me” rapper’s career, and she did not take his remarks lightly. According to Urban Islandz, Joe and his podcast co-hosts had a heated discussion about Cardi’s music, with Joe suggesting that Cardi was too distracted to make real rap music.
Cardi fired back, slamming Joe for his remarks, argued that she was focused on being a mother. “These b***h a** n***as — Joe Budden and the podcast talking about ‘Cardi’s doing other things. She’s not busy worrying about hip-hop.’ Yes n***a I’m am doing other money moves,” she exclaimed. “And guess what else I’m doing n***a? I got to spend time with my child!”
2024: Joe and Cardi come to blows over her sophomore album.
Things between Joe and Cardi never settled down. In July, Joe shared his thoughts on Cardi’s to-be-released sophomore album, reigniting their beef. “We’ll never get another album again. I am standing on it,” Joe said during an episode of his podcast. He went on to suggest that the “Bodak Yellow” star would spend the rest of her career as a “single artist.”
Cardi caught wind of Joe’s remarks and took to X Spaces to call out the former rapper, while also accussing him of drug use. “Bro, I gave you a lap dance two times in [the New York strip club] Starlets. You was high as f**k. High as f**k on coke, n***a,” Cardi claimed.
