B.G. is speaking on the rap game from the outside. The legendary New Orleans rapper, best known as a founding member of the Hot Boys, has regained his freedom following 12 years served of a 14-year prison sentence and is already locked in on what comes next, not only for himself but also for the culture.
B.G., along with Lil Wayne, Juvenile, and Turk, put New Orleans on the map in a way that still echoes today’s rap scene. Now, fresh out and back in the mix, B.G. has a sharp eye on the new generation.
Now, with time to reflect and a new chapter unfolding, B.G. is paying close attention to the new wave. When I caught up with him, one of my first questions was about legacy. If the Hot Boys were to exist in today’s rap landscape, who would make the cut?
He didn’t hesitate.
“Damn man that's crazy. It would have to be Lil Baby, Lil Durk, NBA YoungBoy, and I'd probably slide Kodak Black in that. They might not all get along, but I think that's a nice little supergroup.”
Whether or not that supergroup ever has a chance of coming to fruition, one thing is clear: B.G. is back and paying attention.
