With a foot already in the music world, Baddoo released her inhibitions and true form of self in her latest single “Look at Me.” Setting the tone in just the title alone, Baddoo correlates her upbringing in a music-filled household to amplify a sound that pays tribute to her love for both the soul and R&B genres. The single introduces her true self to not only those who can relate to its message and house music undertones, but to herself as well, as a reminder. Without becoming unattached to that part of herself, Baddoo relays the message within up-and-coming releases, as well as this interview.

Bleu: What about music speaks to you most as an artist?

Geo Baddoo: I think, for me, I'm a songwriter as well, and that's how I fell into music was through writing songs. And I think it's, you know, we have so many problems that we go through day to day, and I really work things out when I write a song and make a song. So, I think, yeah, it's that healing power in it for me.

Bleu: Can you reflect on how you were originally introduced to music?

Geo Baddoo: So, I grew up in a creative home. My dad's a musician, so that was always around me from a young age. He had lots of different musicians walking in and out of our home studio. I was just absorbing all of that as a kid and him showing me all different kinds of music. So that's definitely how I got brought into it. And then once I started to write my own songs.

Bleu: What genres captured you the most when you became a part of the music industry?

Geo Baddoo: I would say soul and R&B, but it's so broad. Soul can be in a lot of other genres as well, like reggae, pop, some rock. You know, soul is something that kind of moves through the genres. But soul and R&B, I was a Michael Jackson kid. I was obsessed with him; he covers all bases, but he's got soul-feeling groove that has called to me.

Bleu: Tell me about the background of putting your single “Look at Me” together.

Geo Baddoo: Look at Me is my first release that actually I didn't produce myself. Okay. It was a unique one for me in that way. I was in LA, and I received the beat, and instantly, with the sun shining, I had something to say on tip of my tongue. So, when I heard it, it just instantly came out, what the song was gonna be. When I got back to UK, I recorded it. I arranged the vocals and sent it back to Titanium, the producer, and he pieced it together. So, it was very natural and happened quite quickly, to be honest. Some songs are like a labor, and this one just perfect timing, alignment, and it came out.

Bleu: What were some of the instruments that spoke to you when in preparation for this single?

Geo Baddoo: Yeah. There's a saxophone, and it's some jazzy elements and just the house beat undertones. And I haven't really dabbled in more, like, fully electronic music before. It was that infectious rhythm with sunshine, just really, that's what it was.

Bleu: What story did you want to tell in this song specifically?

Geo Baddoo: I think that there’s so many different environments that we find ourselves in that are very, very noisy. There's lots of different people, lots of voices, lots of distractions. And it's very easy to kind of come away from yourself and get caught up in another person's projection onto you or get caught in somebody else's business, whether that's social medias and industries. Like, there's a lot of noisy spaces. So, I think I was really feeling aware of that. It's really the message of the song is to tune into yourself, your own voice, your own song, and, yeah, tune everything else out, but still, you know, connect with people.

Bleu: After completing your single, how did you view yourself versus the message you relayed in the song?

Geo Baddoo: I feel like the song is kind of like, is capturing a version of me and a mindset in me that I really wanna keep forever. It's a very confident perspective. So, it's kind of something I always try to bring myself back to because I'm not always that person, obviously. Like, all these different things happen that can make your confidence dip. So, yeah, I kind of solidified in this song that mindset, so I can keep coming back to it. It's like a mirror to me to look back and be like, oh, that's you; that's how you feel about yourself.

Bleu: What can we expect from you as a well-rounded artist?

Geo Baddoo: As I said, this is like the first single with a new vibe for me. I'm definitely doing more experimentation, so more collaborations, definitely, throwing all the different sounds that I enjoy. So, I'm not being boxed in; so you can expect to be surprised, basically, by things that come.

Bleu: What message would you say you are giving as someone who is established in the music industry?

Geo Baddoo: I can only speak to artists, really, because I feel like it's a unique point of view. The message of this song is really like what I was saying, and that you have to tune out a lot of stuff just to listen to your own voice and your own message and your own path. And, yeah, you gotta find patterns to recognize when you're tuning out of that, and you're focusing too much outside on other people. You only get through what my experience so far by keep coming back to yourself. Keep the dialogue going with yourself, be authentic.
