Our internet uncle Shannon Sharpe has caused quite a buzz lately. One might think he is making headlines for an explosive episode on his blockbuster podcast, Club Shay Shay, but the NFL Hall of Famer went viral for a very different kind of video.
He accidentally streamed a sexual encounter on Instagram Live, initially blaming it on being hacked.
Eventually, Shannon was forthcoming with more details, describing the incident as an accident, leaving many of us puzzled. Finding the flashlight feature on the phone can be quite a challenge for some, and accidentally going live on Instagram is even trickier.
But when it comes to pocket dials, anything can happen!
Did Shannon Sharpe get fired from ESPN because of this surprising footage?
No, and let's hope it doesn’t happen. TMZ Sports reported that ESPN isn't going to discipline its star for his accidental sex stream. Maybe this situation could boost his career; just look at how a sex tape transformed the Kardashians.
In all seriousness, the video itself left a lot to the imagination and did not contain any visible nudity or anyone physically in the frame. However, you could hear a woman moaning while Shannon, as the younger crowd puts it, was “talking her through it.”
He had over 6,000 fans watching his stream, and as soon as he learned about the video, he deleted it — though not quickly enough to stop others from screen recording it for their own purposes.
Once the Instagram video went viral, numerous parodies appeared on Instagram and TikTok, and people generally took it lightheartedly.
Shannon, however, was humiliated by the video resurfacing.
He explained on the Nightcap show: “I’m embarrassed. I’m someone that’s extremely private. The audio was heard for the entire world to hear,” Shannon revealed. “I always try to be professional even when behind closed doors. I’m very disappointed in myself. Not for the act, but for the audio to be heard.”
What's the deal with Michelle?
When Shannon breathlessly uttered the name “Michelle” during the encounter, it sparked an online frenzy as people tried to uncover the identity of the mystery woman he was with. To take advantage of the viral IG Live incident, Shannon launched merchandise inspired by the enigmatic “Michelle” that everyone is speculating about online.
A now vintage white t-shirt featuring the phrases “That’s My Michelle” and “Nightcap Film Dept.” was released, along with shirts that said “Nightclap” and “I gave it everything I had!”—all of which quickly sold out and were subsequently taken down from the website.
Is this video an confirmation of his heterosexuality?
Some social media users are suggesting that Shannon intentionally leaked the footage to counter persistent rumors about his sexuality. These hurtful comments first arose when a photo emerged of Shannon carrying a "man purse," but the accusations intensified following his conversation with Katt Williams on Club Shay Shay.
Shannon shared with the Hollywood Reporter: “Have you not seen the media? Now, all of a sudden, since Katt did the interview, I’m gay. Since Katt did the interview, I’m Wendy Williams. I’m a gossip columnist. Katt did warn me.”
On the Nightcap Show, Shannon boasted to Chad Ocho Cinco that after the video leaked, Katt Williams called and told him, “You ain’t gay today.”
While taking responsibility, the 56-year-old former football player-turned-analyst appears to be moving forward with full momentum. Club Shay Shay boasts over 3.4 million YouTube subscribers, while Nightcap has more than 1.4 million.
It's almost guaranteed that this incident has drawn in even more subscribers.
