NBA player Kai Jones has had a pretty rough 2023. The young power forward explicitly tweeted that he wanted to be traded from the Charlotte Hornets. But instead of fulfilling his wishes, the team instead waived him, making him a free agent. As of this writing, Kai Jones hasn’t signed with another team yet, although he has said he is already in training with another team.

But as we wait to see what becomes of the young Bahamian players’ career, there’s one thing that nobody doubts, Kai Jones loves giving back. Too many athletes make it to the biggest stage without ever thinking about where they came from. This is not the case with Kai Jones.

Greensboro Swarm

Kai Jones began his career in the NBA with the Greensboro Swarm, a G-League team affiliated with the Charlotte Hornets. Jones immediately started putting up great numbers in the league, which caught the attention of the Hornets management. This was not someone who belonged in the G-League. And that’s when Kai eventually started making appearances in the NBA with the Hornets.

While with the Swarm, Kai Jones also participated in the many community events the team held. These include things like shopping sprees for the Salvation Army, joining fun runs with causes, visiting health centers, and a bunch of other community initiatives that help Greensboro City in North Carolina.

Bahamas Born

Aside from joining community events in Greensboro, Kai Jones is also one of those players who never forgets where he came from. Kai was born and raised in Nassau, Bahamas, and he moved to the United States at 11 years old.

Kai wanted to be a long jumper at first, but he discovered basketball and found that his athleticism gave him huge potential in the sport. He began his career in high school, playing for Orlando Christian Prep School. From there, his game would grow in hoops and bounds, making it all the way to the NBA.

Despite all this, Kai never forgot where he came from. Kai represented his country in the FIBA World Cup Qualifiers, and he was the top performer for his team. He is a very proud Bahamian, even using the number 242 in most of his social media handles. 242 is the Bahamas telephone code, and it is constantly used in hashtags to represent the island nation. Kai wears it proudly.

What’s Next for Kai?

Right now, the future is unclear for Kai. Lots of critics are coming out, saying that he’s not in the right headspace for the NBA, while others say he’s still young and still has a bright future ahead of him.

Whatever the case, there’s no doubt Kai has gained a lot of fans, not only for his basketball skills but also for his love for his community. Both Greensboro and Bahamas residents are cheering him on, and they are confident that once this shaky season for the NBA star is through, he’ll come back stronger than ever before, and become an inspiration for everyone who is currently struggling in their career.
