John Boyega, the British-born actor of Nigerian origin, is known for his exploits in the movie industry.

He is known for his versatility and great performance in the Star Wars series, and more recently in movies like Woman King. John has evolved over the years from a mere actor into an all-round fashion icon.

He seems to fit into diverse fashion wear and accessories, from contemporary old British style of dressing to the American hip-hop trendy clothing and his native Nigerian attire, John can effectively represent different cultures through fashion in different situations. His evolution into a fashion icon is highlighted below.

John Is Not Afraid of Color

John evolved in the fashion industry because he believes in diversifying his fashion options. According to the actor, he likes incorporating different colors and also experimenting with diverse patterns thus creating diverse fits that are different from regular wears.

“I’ve always tried to incorporate a range of colors, patterns, and different fits that are referential of native wear into my wardrobe,” he told GQ. “I’ve worn everything from Louis Vuitton catwalk looks to traditional Nigerian dress. I’m still trying to work my style out, I’m incredibly curious to see where it can go and how far I can push it.”

“Fashion is a good way of being responsible for your own sustainability and carbon output, as, let’s face it, people can’t always be sustainable in every aspect of their lives.” he told the outlet. “With your fashion choices you can be better more easily, as there are so many brands doing good stuff, or you can learn to reuse. I wanted that to be intrinsic to the H&M collection.”

The first H&M sustainable clothing collections by John Boyega comprise staple wardrobe wear including oversized cardigans, checked overcoats, regular sneakers, and knits of all kinds. The materials were made from recycled wool and organic cotton and you also have those made from deadstock and Vegea which is the vegans’ leather alternative. The collection was launched in 2021 and it was a huge success for John and the brand.

John Boyega Stayed True to His Culture

One thing that is noticeable about John is that he stayed through to his native culture. He loves wearing loose-fit Nigerian attires and he hinted at H&M about his native roots, hence the incorporation of different native patterns and fits in his collections.

I wear these wildly patterned robes in the house that I’ll never show anyone else that I rock, but they’re amazing,” he added. “I love a loose fit; they’re so comfortable.”
