From reggae artists to mainstream pop stars, the lineup reflects Bob’s universal appeal and the cross-cultural influence of his music.
Leon Bridges, WizKid, and more — here's who's featured on the 'One Love' soundtrack.
With the One Love film comes two musical projects for fans to indulge in. The movie’s official soundtrack was released on Feb. 9 and features a slate of hits from Bob and The Wailers. The record has 17 tracks, including the smash hit “One Love,” which inspired the film.
In addition to the movie’s official soundtrack, Paramount is releasing a 7-track EP. Bob Marley: One Love (Music Inspired By The Film) is slated to release on Feb. 14, alongside the film.
The project features artists from various genres— including R&B, reggae, and country. Among the singers contributing to the record are Nigerian acts such as WizKid and Bloody Civilian, who bring their contemporary flair to Bob’s classic tunes. Bob's grandson, Skip Marley, is also included on the record.
One of the most highly-anticipated tracks on the album is a special rendition of "Redemption Song" by Leon Bridges. Leon’s cover captures the song's timeless essence while infusing it with fresh energy for a new generation of listeners.
“'Redemption Song’ is one of my favorite Bob Marley songs,” Leon said in a press release. “I was so honored to do a rendition of it. For me, it was important to keep the spirit of the original song while putting my own spin on it.”
What is ‘One Love’ about?
One Love promises to give Bob Marley fans an unfiltered look at the singer’s career.
Bob grew up in Kingston, where he lived for much of his life. Fans will be guided through several key moments from Bob’s time as a star, including an incident that left the singer and his wife clinging for life. At the center of the film is Kingsley Ben-Adir, who stars in the titular role.
Kingsley is receiving positive reviews for his portrayal of the reggae icon, with Variety calling the actor’s performance “mesmerizing.” Kingsley opened up about taking on the role and explained that it required a deep understanding of Bob’s complex personality.
“He was a gentle, kind, humble, loving human being who was committed to music, who was committed to his mission and his message,” Kingsley told PEOPLE. “But there was also a really tough side of Bob where he wasn't messing around.”
