Did Martin and Gina actors Martin Lawrence and Tisha Campbell date in real life?

Martin and Tisha began working together on the set of Martin in 1992. The chemistry between Martin and Gina on-screen always left the lingering question of whether or not they were dating in real life. The truth is Martin Lawrence and Tisha Campbell did not date in real life.

They were friends and colleagues. It wasn't until the fifth season of Martin that their friendship started to change, and troubles arose. Tisha was dating actor Duane Martin, who later became her husband in 1996.

Tisha Campbell leveled serious allegations against Martin Lawrence.

During Season 5 of Martin, it became apparent that Tisha and Martin weren't appearing together as a couple as frequently. In 1997, Tisha made allegations against Martin, suing him for sexual harassment, verbal abuse, and inappropriate behavior during intimate scenes on set. The once solid friendship between them began to deteriorate, reflected in their on-screen performances.

This also affected the overall energy and dynamics among the rest of the cast and crew. Tisha requested that the writers avoid putting them in scenes together to complete Season 5. Unfortunately, due to the strain on their relationship, Martin came to an end.

In an interview with REVOLT in 2020, Martin denied the allegations and stated: “None of it was true and it was all a lot of bulls--t.”

As fans, we'll never know the complete story. Tisha shared her perspective while Martin offered his own.
