Nothing Can Stop Kid Cudi — From Mental Health to Broken Bones

Kid Cudi has had a long-standing run in the music industry over the years. Here is what we know about his injury during a performance.

Rapper Kid Cudi is one of the most successful artists in hip-hop. Since the release of his debut single "Day 'n' Nite" in 2009, Kid (real name: Scott Ramon Seguro Mescudi).

Along with his music, Kid Cudi connects with his fans thanks to his transparency when it comes to his health.

In 2014, he revealed he struggled with depression and suicidal ideation. Along with being open about his mental health struggles, Kid also has had some physical injuries, most recently breaking his foot during Coachella. So, how is he doing today?

Kid Cudi checked into rehab in 2016.

In October 2016, Kid Cudi told fans via Facebook that he would be checking into rehab for depression.

"I am not at peace. I haven't been since you've known me. If I didn't come here, I would've done something to myself. I simply am a damaged human swimming in a pool of emotions everyday of my life," he wrote. " I'm scared, I'm sad, I feel like I let a lot of people down, and again, I'm sorry. It's time I fix me. I'm nervous but ima get through this."

More recently, Kid shared an update on his mental wellness, telling People in 2022, "It's always a lot when you go on the road. But I've been in such a great space and so happy with everything that's been going on and, I'm proud of myself, man. Like, I'm just really proud of myself. More than I've ever been in my life."

Despite his openness about checking into rehab, Kid waited a few years before telling his fans about another health scare.

"Everything was f--ked," Kid said of the stroke he suffered two weeks after entering rehab. He went on to spend a few months in rehab, but he did not let that stop him from being in the Broadway play Lobby Hero in 2017.

"I proved to myself that I could do it. I needed that at the time,” he told Esquire. “I was happy. Like, damn, my brain is still strong. I didn’t lose something in that shit that happened.”

In April 2024, Kid Cudi broke his foot at Coachella and had to cancel his tour.

During his 2024 Coachella performance on April 21, the rapper jumped off the stage and broke his foot. At first, Kid made light of the situation, saying in a video, "This is what happens when a 40-year-old man tries to prance around off stage like he’s 26 like he used to do back in the day."

Following the fall, Kid revealed he had to undergo surgery, which meant he needed to cancel his “Insano: Engage The Rage World Tour."

“Guys, I have a broken calcaneus,” Kid Cudi wrote on Instagram. “I am headed to surgery now, and there’s gonna be a long recovery time. “We have to cancel the tour so I can focus on getting better to be out there in top shape to rage with you all."

Luckily, his girlfriend Lola Abecassis Sartore, was right by his side at the hospital.

"My ride or die holdin me down," he captioned a photo on Instagram. "My babe stayed all day and even slept at the hospital. I am so blessed to have her yall. Thank u God."

His fans are also rooting for his comeback on social media.

"Broken leg can’t stop Mr.Rager," one follower commented before another added, "Wishing you a great recovery Cudi. Come back better than ever."
