Love and Hip-Hop: 4 Rappers Who Were in Relationships With R&B Singers

Rap and R&B go together like peanut butter and jelly, especially in the dating sphere. Rappers and R&B singers make cute couples — just take A$AP Rocky and Rihanna, Jay-Z and Beyonce, and Nelly, and Ashanti, for example.

Though these relationships are higher profile now, there was an element of shock when it was first revealed that the artists were a couple. There are plenty of rappers who you might not have known were romantically involved with R&B singers, too.

Big Sean and Jhene Aiko met professionally back in 2012. They collaborated on the songs “Beware” and “I’m Gonna Be.” Soon after, they attended a Lakers game together — however, Aiko had a boyfriend at the time. After more musical collaborations and public displays of affection, the two decided to date seriously.

Jhene told Billboard: "It just came to a point where it was like, 'I'm single, you're single, we love each other.'"

"We actually already loved each other as people and then it was like, 'Okay, let's just, you know, be together.' So it was different because of that friendship. That comes first, we're friends before anything. We can bicker like a friendship," she added.

She even tattooed Big Sean's face on her arm but had it covered up after a breakup in 2019. The two have since reconciled and welcomed a son into the world in November of 2022.

Though Young Thug is still incarcerated, he and Mariah The Scientist's romance is still going strong. The two sparked dating rumors back in 2022 with song collaboration “ Walked In” where they played husband and wife in the music video. Back in 2021, the two were spotted all over Atlanta together showing public displays of affection. Despite Young Thug's ongoing court case, the romance shows no signs of slowing down.

During his trial, he was seen mouthing “ I love you” to Mariah. Mariah makes weekly visits to prison to see young Thug and speaks to him every day.

She explained on Way Up With Angela Yee: “It’s almost like jail solidified our relationship. I’m willing to wait it out because I feel like he’s the one. If I didn’t really see that in him, I probably wouldn’t."

Though the Californians no longer speak to each other, YG and Kehlani briefly dated back to 2020.

They only dated a few short months before Kehlani found out that YG was cheating on her via text messages. Though YG made serval attempts to reconcile, Kehlani refused his advances.

“The last conversation we had was the decision to be like, we do exist in the same industry and I don't wanna have to walk in the room and someone awkwardly be like 'you know, your ex is in here,' then we both have weird energy with each other," Kehlani explained to DJ Envy on The Breakfast Club.

"We're not on any type of bad terms. I wish him the best, he wishes me the best. It's nothing but love."

Common is known to change girlfriends like he changes his socks, and in early 2024, he confirmed a new romance with Jennifer Hudson.

Common was a guest on Jennifer Hudson’s talk show and alluded to their romance.

During the interview, he referred to Hudson as one of the most beautiful people he's met in his life: “She’s smart, she loves God, she got something real down to earth about her."

"But I set my standard kind of high because she had to have an EGOT, she had to win an Oscar on her first movie, she had to get her own talk show,” Common teased.

The couple have been romantically linked since July of 2022, showing plenty of public displays of affection.
