The Streamy Awards have become a way to give a nod to the folks who've embraced the digital stage, are changing the game, and are showing us new ways to be entertained. Here is why the Streamy Awards are a big deal and why it's generating so much buzz.
What is the Streamy Awards?
Every year, the YouTube Streamy Awards, often called the Streamy Awards or Streamys, come to life courtesy of Dick Clark Productions and Tubefilter. These awards shine a spotlight on outstanding achievements in the realm of online videos, covering everything from directing and acting to producing and writing. The Award show is also subdivided into categories, ranging from specific categories like the Music Awards to the Overall Awards.
Each year, the fancy awards for this event get handed out in none other than Los Angeles, California. Streamy Awards were the first of its kind —solely dedicated to web series. According to the website: "The Streamy Awards is the foremost recognition within the creator community, honoring excellence in a variety of content verticals and areas of expertise."
How do Streamy Awards work?
The Streamy Awards nominees and winners feature people and groups who've captured audiences' attention worldwide. They're the creative minds behind some of the most groundbreaking and widely viewed content. The live broadcast of the Streamy Awards brings together creators who collectively have audiences reaching hundreds of millions.
The Streamy Awards kicked off in 2009 as a web series but has since evolved into a celebrated award show that mirrors the current state of viral social media culture and celebrates creators taking the internet by storm.
The most recent segment of the show was hosted by YouTuber Matthew Robert Patrick, who is also known by his nickname MatPat. Matthew is an American YouTuber, co-creator of the YouTube channels The Game Theorists, The Film Theorists, GTLive, and The Food Theorists, and co-founder, president, and CEO of Theorist Media.

What Black creators were recently nominated at the Streamy Awards?
The Streamy Awards also give us a sneak peek into what's coming next. From virtual reality stories that put us right in the action to cool collaborations that break the mold; the Streamy Awards remind creators to keep pushing limits. This year, Black creators shone at the Streamy Awards — several known names like Coi Leray, JiDion, and Armani White. Ice Spice, Big Boss Vette, and Doechiii, among others, received nominations and acknowledgment for their artistic contributions and viral content.
Other creators who were recognized at the show included renowned Twitch streamer Kai Cenat, who is popular for his live streams and comedic-based content, and Tanum. YouTubers KSI, IShowSpeed, and RDCWorld. Other notable Black honorees included "TikTok's best-dressed guy" Wisdom Kaye and tech podcaster Marques Brownlee.
