The Breakdown: Ja Rule’s still got hits, but his proudest legacy lives at home. The rap icon turned entrepreneur is raising three creative kids with his longtime love.

Ja Rule has been a hip-hop pioneer since he burst on the scene. From tearing up club speakers in the early 2000s to launching NFT platforms and wine labels, Jeffrey “Ja Rule” Atkins doesn’t miss a beat. And while he’s back on the road for the “Where the Party At” tour, he’s also making sure his kids—Brittney, Jeffrey Jr., and Jordan—know exactly what legacy looks like.

The rapper’s career kicked off in 1994 when he teamed up with Cash Money Click, dropping Queens-bred verses alongside Chris Black and O-1. After some street buzz with singles like “Get Tha Fortune” and “4 My Click,” the group called it quits. However, Ja kept working and it paid off big time.

He inked a deal with Irv Gotti’s Murder Inc in 1998, and by March ’99, he dropped his debut album Venni Vetti Vecci. The lead single “Holla Holla” lit up the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at No. 35, and the album went platinum soon after.

Now, Ja is a father and family man, but he is still putting in work. Here is a look at the rapper’s children whom he shares with his wife.

Ja Rule is a loving father of three.

Ja’s career was unrivaled during its peak. In 2000, he released Rule 3:36 and followed up in 2001 with Pain Is Love, both albums hitting No. 1 on the Billboard 200. On top of that, he locked down three No. 1s on the Hot 100 that year with “Always on Time” (feat. Ashanti), “I’m Real (Murder Remix)” and “Ain’t It Funny” (both with Jennifer Lopez). By 2005, he’d stacked 17 Hot 100 hits and sold over 30 million records worldwide.

However, Ja’s real pride shines in his brood. He and his wife, Aisha Watkins-Atkins, have three kids together – Brittany, Jeffrey Jr., and Jordan. Born in 1999, Brittney’s strutting her own lane as an actor, screenwriter, and entrepreneur. She also runs Based On You, a haircare line, and popped up on WE TV’s Growing Up Hip Hop: New York. She also tied the knot this year, with Ja walking her down the aisle.

He also built a following on Instagram with over 40,000 followers. Meanwhile, Jordan is flexin’ a comedic streak on TikTok—dropping routines that make fans crack up, and popping’ up at red-carpet events with mom and pops.

Ja Rule married his high school sweetheart.

Before achieving his first No. 1 hit, Ja Rule was a high school student in Queens who noticed Aisha Murray as she stepped off the bus one morning. In April 2001, they married in a lavish, 1940s gangster–themed ceremony attended by 800 guests—complete with tuxedos, tails, cigars, and champagne.

On their anniversary in April 2024, Ja posted, “23 years of love, laughter and lots of great memories…love you with all my heart”—and Aisha shot back, “Love you so much!” as they celebrated riding that high school-to-marriage journey.
