The Breakdown: A federal jury ruled in favor of Megan Thee Stallion in her defamation case against blogger Milagro “Gramz” Cooper over false shooting claims and an AI deepfake.
Winning in court has become a walk in the park for Megan Thee Stallion. A federal jury in Miami ruled in favor of the Grammy-winning rapper in her civil case against Texas blogger Milagro Cooper, known online as Milagro Gramz. Jurors found Cooper liable for defamation, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and promoting an “altered sexual depiction” of Megan tied to an AI-generated video.
The court may also order Cooper to pay Megan’s attorney’s fees. Legal experts say those costs could reach into the hundreds of thousands. The verdict also stamps a permanent legal mark on years of online attacks. Here’s a closer look at the case and what Megan stands to win.
Why did Megan Thee Stallion filed the lawsuit against Milagro Gramz?
Megan filed the lawsuit in October 2024 after years of conflict with bloggers who defended Tory Lanez following his conviction for shooting her in the feet in July 2020. A jury found Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, guilty in December 2022. He later received a 10-year prison sentence, according to People. In court filings and testimony, Megan’s lawyers described Milagro as a “mouthpiece,” “puppet,” and “paid surrogate” for Tory. They said she used her platform as an “online rumor mill” to spread falsehoods about Megan to tens of thousands of followers.
The lawsuit states that Milagro questioned whether Megan had even been shot. She repeatedly suggested Megan only stepped on glass, despite the jury convicting Tory of assault with a firearm. Milagro also accused Megan of lying under oath and committing perjury during the trial. In addition, she promoted an AI-generated pornographic deepfake that falsely appeared to show Megan. She shared the link during a livestream and directed followers to find it on X.
“It’s time to hold bloggers accountable for years of harassment, cyberbullying and the publication of misinformation about my personal and professional life,” Megan said upon filing the lawsuit, per People. “I’ve endured countless attacks on my character based on false narratives from social media bloggers misrepresenting themselves as journalists.”
In court, Milagro tried to frame her coverage as commentary protected by free speech. She testified that she did not intend to harm Megan and claimed she simply discussed a high-profile case. The jury ultimately sided with the rapper. After the verdict, Cooper tried to claim a partial win outside the courtroom. She told local reporters she was “not ecstatic,” but felt she “made out pretty good” because the verdict did not reach millions and the judge appeared ready to cut the defamation portion from the final judgment. However, reporter Meghann Cuniff later clarified that the court has not yet ruled on the defamation claim or determined the final amount Milagro must pay Megan.

Megan didn’t give a long speech after court. She kept it short and told reporters, “I’m just happy,” as she left the Miami federal courthouse with her team. Her lawyers, however, made it clear why the verdict matters. After the win, attorney Mari Henderson released a statement to ABC News and called it a victory for truth online.
“We’re thankful for the jury’s commitment to reinforcing the importance of truth, accountability and responsible commentary on social media. This verdict sends a clear message that spreading dangerous misinformation carries significant consequences,” Henderson exclaimed.
