2007: The beef between 50 Cent and Cam’ron begins.

In the early 2000s, 50 Cent and Cam'ron were on the rise. 50 Cent was making waves in Queens with his gritty street tales and aggressive style, while Cam'ron was gaining fame as a member of The Diplomats (Dipset), a Harlem-based rap group that also included Freekey Zekey, Jim Jones, and Juelz Santana.

In 2007, when 50 Cent, real name Curtis Jackson, appeared on Angie Martinez's show on New York's Hot 97 radio station. During the interview, 50 criticized Koch Records, calling it a "graveyard" for artists who were no longer relevant.

Jim Jones was signed to Koch at the time, leading Cam to call in to defend the label and challenge 50’s remarks. The two engaged in a heated exchange, with Cam'ron accusing 50 of lying about the music industry and its workings.

Feeling slighted, Cam'ron responded with a blistering diss track titled “Curtis,” directly targeting 50. “Curtis” featured Cam'ron mocking 50’s real name, Curtis Jackson, and accusing him of being a fraud in the industry. In response, 50 Cent released “Funeral Music,” a track in which he took aim at Cam'ron and Dipset.

“When me and 50 Cent was going on, that s**t was fun,” Cam said (via VIBE), adding, “Shout out to my n***a 50, we good now, too. But when 50 dissed me, it started with an argument on the phone. 50 had said Koch [Entertainment] is the graveyard for a lot of rappers. At the time, Jim Jones had just went to Koch, and Jim Jones is Dipset.”
