The Breakdown: Big Boogie’s sister was killed in a car accident in Arkansas, and the details are saddening. The rapper has since taken to Instagram to confirm his sister’s tragic passing.
Rapper Big Boogie has been putting on for Memphis for some years, slowly building a solid fan base. Boogie was born in Tallulah, La., and raised in the Frayser neighborhood of North Memphis, Tenn. – the place he calls home. His come-up wasn’t handed to him — it was hard-earned. After losing his father while still in high school, Boogie turned to music, and he has not slowed down since.
In 2017, he dropped Definition of Pain, the project that laid the blueprint for his grind. It wasn’t long before Memphis heavyweight Yo Gotti took notice. By 2020, Boogie was signed to Gotti’s Collective Music Group (CMG), joining a powerhouse roster that includes Moneybagg Yo and GloRilla.
Since then, Big Boogie has taken off. His mixtapes, Final Nightmare and Underrated showed the world that Boogie’s voice carries weight, whether he’s turning up or telling truths.

Now, Boogie is dealing with a heavy heart after confirming the death of his sister, Laterrika Woods, following a fatal car crash that went down during a high-speed police chase. Here is everything we know about the accident.
What happened to Big Boogie’s sister?
Big Boogie is mourning the loss of his sister, Laterrika, following a car crash in Arkansas. According to reports from Kossy Derrick Ent, the car was being driven by a man known as Kizzle Consistent FlyGuy, who refused to pull over for the police.
The chase escalated, and officers allegedly used a PIT maneuver to stop the vehicle, which caused it to flip. The crash resulted in the death of Woods, and another passenger, Taricaa Lashay, was severely injured — reportedly losing an arm.
Kizzle immediately took to Facebook Live following the accident, sobbing in shock. In the video, which appears to be filmed from the back of a police car, Kizzle explains his side of the story.
“We wasn’t doing nothing. The speed limit was 75, I was doing 70 miles an hour,” Kizzle said, before being interrupted by an officer.
Boogie, whose real name is John Lotts, later confirmed through social media that Laterrika was, in fact, his sister. He’s been known for keeping his family close, and this unexpected loss hit hard. “I love you, sister,” Boogie wrote alongside a photo of the two. “I’m logging off today.”
Boogie lost his brother in a police shooting.
Boogie is no stranger to pain. He’s previously opened up about losing his brother, Brandon Webber, in a 2019 police shooting. According to Action News 5, federal agents were attempting to arrest Webber on a warrant out of Mississippi. Authorities claimed he rammed into their vehicles and exited his car with a weapon. They opened fire, hitting him 16 times. His family and neighbors watched it all go down — and the aftermath sparked one of the biggest protests Memphis had seen in years.
More than 30 law enforcement officers were injured in the uprising that followed. In response to his brother's death, Big Boogie released the song "Brandon Webber," expressing his grief and honoring his brother’s memory.
