When Lil' Wayne called Missy Elliott his favorite rapper of all time, many shared his sentiments. Rappers are powerful influences in the music industry, and many of your favorite rappers have artists who inspire them, too. If you want to know who influences the biggest artists of our generation, here are 10 rappers' favorite rappers:
Drake
Drake is touted as one of the biggest names in rap, but he credits much of his inspiration to his top five rappers. In a comment posted underneath Hush's Instagram, he revealed his favorite rappers of all time.
"My top 5 is Biggie, Hov, Wayne, Young Tony, and 3000 since nobody asked."
Doja Cat
Doja Cat is one of the biggest names in music, but she always makes it a point to highlight others. And in 2021, during an Instagram Live session, she shouted out her favorite rapper of all time: Homeboy Sandman.
"So, Homeboy Sandman is a rapper and he's really fucking dope, he's one of my favorite rappers," she said. "But he does this thing. There's a part at the end of the song where he's just supposed to be talking, but when he talks, he still sounds like he's rapping and it's kinda funny. I don't know why that's funny. It's not that funny but it's kinda funny to me, I don't know. Maybe just to me."
Megan Thee Stallion
Megan Thee Stallion is no stranger to the spotlight but in an interview with The Cruz Show, the 'Hot Girl' rapper shared some of the shine when she revealed her top five favorite rappers were Lil' Kim, Foxy Brown, Missy Elliot, Eve, and none other than, herself.
J. Cole
J. Cole is a household name who earned his title as one of the greatest rappers in music history. But in an interview with Angie Martinez of 105.1, he listed his top five: 2Pac, Biggie, Nas, Jay-Z, Eminem, and Andre 3000.
"It probably changes all the time," he said before naming 2Pac, Biggie, and Nas. "I wanna say [André] so bad, but Eminem is like solo dolo," he explained. "Andre's incredible, but he'll tell you himself, he was in a duo, so his workload was a little less, but creatively, he's miles beyond."
JT
City Girl JT is a heavy hitter in the music industry, but she always has love for the up-and-comers. In a Twitter post, she shouted out her new fave rapper, saying, "Flo Milli, my favorite rapper of the new girls."
Pusha T
Rapper Pusha T is a beast on the mic. But when the "Diet Coke" rapper was asked where he draws his inspiration, he revealed that Jay-Z holds the top spot.
"Hov is first because he made Reasonable Doubt, and that is the grail of all drug levels, without being all about drugs. It spoke more to the lifestyle."
Flo Milli
Flo Milli is a popular female rap star taking the hip hop game by storm. She was named an XXL Freshman, and in an interview with the publication, she shared the rappers who inspired her most: Nicki Minaj, Missy Elliott, Young Thug, Eve, and Lil Kim.
"I would say they're my top five because I feel like the majority of them paved the way for newer generations of rap." Flo Milli said. "I have mad respect for them, and I like their style and the things that they brung to rap. So, those would be my fave."
Cardi B
Cardi B is a superstar rapper with a huge fanbase, but in a 2018 Tweet, the "Bodak Yellow" rapper revealed to users who she was fangirling over — rappers Cupcakke, Saweetie, and the City Girls. "New female rap artist on my list?City girls,cupcake,saweetie..??♀️??♀️"
Lil' Kim
Lil' Kim is a legendary rapper who helped pave the way for today's female rappers. But when asked who helped pave the way for her, she kept it cute.
