These 7 Rappers Were Embroiled in the Biggest Controversies of 2023

Celebrities have often made headlines for the controversies involving their personal lives. Here are some rappers who made viral news in 2023.

For as long as rap music has been around, the genre has always been synonymous with controversy, and this year proved to be no exception.

Some of the world's most renowned rappers are famous for their lyricism but are also well-known for being in hot water for one reason or another.

From social media feuds and clapbacks to legal battles, the rap scene seemed to be ablaze with drama throughout the year. Here are some rappers who were embroiled in it all.

Cardi B

From fiery online exchanges to legal drama and spats with Youtubers, Cardi B's controversies this year had all the makings of a telenovela.

In addition to her numerous online spats with fans, Cardi also appeared in court several times this year. One instance was when she failed to complete her community service after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor.

Additionally, her love life was at the center of attention. She and her husband, Offset, split in late 2023 after six years of marriage.

Kanye "Ye" West

Kanye West has been known over the years as a brilliant yet deeply controversial celebrity who knows how to garner media attention.

Following his statements against the Jewish community in 2022, Ye caught a lot of backlash and even lost business partnerships afterward.

However, he had a change of heart in 2023. In December took to Instagram to post in part: "I sincerely apologize to the Jewish community for any unintended outburst caused by my words or actions."

Nicki Minaj

Nicki Minaj is known for her outspoken personality and no-nonsense approach to her opposition.

Many fans and peers have often had an issue with this and it subsequently erupted into quite a bit of controversy. In 2022, she and fellow rapper Latto had a very public fallout, which resulted in public outrage. The controversy spilled over into 2023, with Nicki allegedly continuing to be at the receiving and giving end of jabs at Latto.

Doja Cat

Doja Cat is not one to shy away from her artistic vision. Although several fans were hesitant to call her a rapper, she has solidified herself as one through a variety of her work.

This year, Doja explored a different side of her artistic vision by dabbling into darker themes and forms of expression. This rubbed several fans the wrong way, and they voiced their opinions to Doja, seemingly leading to the "Agora Hills" rapper lashing out at her fans.

Offset is another rapper who has had a controversy-riddled career.

From his days as one-third of the former hip-hop group Migos to now, Offset has been involved in various controversies. With the release of his most recent album also came reports and viral stories of infidelity, clashes with his former Migo, Quavo, and even online spats with Nicki Minaj's husband, Kenneth Petty.

Safe to say, the year was very eventful for Offset.

Gunna, Young Thug and the YSL crew

When a grand jury indictment ruled that the YSL crew was deeply embroiled in criminal activity, rappers Young Thug and Gunna were caught in the middle.

The RICO case landed the pair behind bars. Gunna was released in late 2022, Young Thug and some members of the crew are still behind bars in what seems like an ever-complicated criminal trial.
