Jamell Maurice Demons, more commonly known as YNW Melly, got his breakout moment in 2017. Songs like "Suicidal," "Murder on My Mind," and "Mixed Personalities," which he worked on with Kanye West, made him famous.

But behind the spotlight, YNW Melly's life has been embroiled in legal drama and controversy.

In 2019 when YNW Melly was arrested and charged with two counts of premeditated murder. The rapper was tied to the deaths of two fellow rappers from the YNW collective, YNW Sakchaser and YNW Juvy. The now-deceased rappers were YNW Melly's childhood friends.

According to the prosecution, YNW Melly and YNW Bortlen hatched a plan to stage the murders as a drive-by shooting to hide their involvement in the crime.

This isn't the young rapper's run-in with the law, though. Before fame, he joined the Bloods. In 2015, he was apprehended, charged, and spent several months in jail for his involvement in a shooting near Vero Beach High School in Florida.
