Hip-hop heads had a good 2023 — especially with the emergence of new artists like Cash Cobain, Lola Brooke, and Baby Drill.
As we bring in the new year, the spotlight turns towards these up-and-coming rappers, who are set to reshape the sound of rap music in 2024.
These rap newbies mark a shift in how music is consumed. Through engagement on social media, viral moments, and a few controversies, these artists have created their own path to fame.
Here are five rappers who are primed to make waves in the industry.
Bandmanrill
At just 21-years-old, Bandmanrill became the face of drill rap in New York City.
The rapper – whose real name is Sirill Pettus – rose to popularity following the release of his viral hit “Real Hips.” The track fuses elements of rap, drill, and club music, with a beat that has Gen Z in a chokehold. Thanks to his growing fan base, Bandmanrill is likely to be a dominant force in hip-hop in 2024.
KayCyy
It may seem like KayCyy popped up out of nowhere, but the Kenyan rapper has been in the music business for years. Before his rap career took off, KayCyy penned lyrics for Lil Wayne, Kanye West, and Travis Scott. He gained notoriety after releasing bangers like “The Sun” and “Roll The Dice,” which were produced by Gesaffelstein.
The rapper has dropped several singles but his debut studio album will not be release until 2024.
BLP Kosher
Benjamin Landy Pavlon, known professionally as BLP Kosher, is serving up a different kind of rap music. Outside of his outlandish hair and eccentric outfits, the Florida native is proudly Jewish. He gained viral acclaim thanks to his songs “Mazel Tron” and “Jew on the Canoe," where he openly embraced his beliefs.
“A lot of people be showing love. They rock with the names and s--t, and they’ll dap me up and salute,” he told Complex, adding, “I know my meaning for it and why I’m doing it.”
Bktherula
Bktherula is already a star in her own right, as she is on the verge of having a big break.
The Atlanta rapper gained internet fame in 2020 when her song, “Twerkin’ Together,” went viral on TikTok. The music video for the single has over nine million views on YouTube. Since then, Bktherula’s popularity has significantly increased.
She boasts more than 500,000 followers on Instagram with no signs of slowing down. Since bursting onto the music scene, she’s worked with YoungBoy Never Broke Again to release “CRAZY GIRL P2,” and Rico Nasty for “Left Right” and “Faygo.”
Real Boston Richey
Real Boston Richey has slowly become one of the hottest new MCs around.
He started rapping in 2021 and has since snagged features from Lil Durk and Future. Despite his name, Richey is from Florida and his music combines a southern sound with new-age drill rap. In January, the “Keep Dissin’” rapper signed a $7 million deal with Epic Records and he appears to be gearing up for a big year in 2024.
